UCAT Crash Course – Reviews
In 4 years of running these courses, we’ve had our fair share of compliments from thankful students. Here’s a small selection.
Below you’ll find some of the comments that were made (anonymously) by students via our feedback form at the end of the courses, as well as some that were emailed in afterwards. For the sake of integrity, we haven’t edited anything – what you read is exactly what the students wrote. The only thing we’ve changed is that we’ve blanked out the names of competitors wherever they’re mentioned – it’s just classier that way.
Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for the UCAT course you ran at Imperial last weekend. I felt obliged to sign up for ██████ (as everyone does), which I did, and have just finished the first day there. There is literally no comparison. The way in which your tutors, Aqib, Dan and Sheikh, led the course actually made the whole day really enjoyable and there was real personality behind the words, which unfortunately cannot be said about my ██████ course. The advice you gave is better, the fact your courses are led by a team of three is better, the handbook you gave out was better…. I could go on. You could literally just buy and read through the ██████ course book for the 50 quid or whatever it is on eBay and teach yourself – that’s all the instructor was doing. Sorry to go on… I just wanted to make my point (although I’m sure you’ve already had similar feedback from many of your students)… just wanted to finish (sorry this is so long) by saying thank you again and congratulations on setting up this company. People will soon realise ██████ is a rip off and companies like yours mean getting into medical school isn’t all about wealth 🙂
For those who are questioning whether 6med courses are good. They’re not, they are more than good , they are AMAZING!. I took the UCAT course and it was great. Quantitative reasoning and abstract reasoning were the two sections that i was especially worried about and often felt that these two sections would let me down the most. We did so much practice questions during the session, that at the end of it i felt far more confident. But most importantly the strategies that you learn from the tutors are vital and extremely helpful. For instance, i thought verbal reasoning was my strongest section but i still wasn’t getting a high enough score needed when doing practice questions, during the course i was taught a different strategy in approaching verbal reasoning and getting the answers correct. After the course, i went home and i applied all the techniques that i was taught and i saw a massive difference in my scores. I was hitting about an average 400/500 before 6MED, the day of my test i hit an average score of 680. I’m not a naturally smart individual and i even shocked myself. 6MED are great and i’ve recommended them to all my friends. The price is worth it. I’m taking a gap year but i’ve still got the course booklet with all my notes and practice questions that they gave to me. Which i intend to reuse when i sit the test again. Also definitely use UCAT Ninja, that helped me so much. The more practice you get the more better for you! I was told that you can’t revise for the UCAT like the BMAT, which is true but you can learn certain techniques that will better your chances and those techniques i learnt from my tutors at 6MED. Good luck!!
Fantastic. I used your UCAT Crash course, UCAT Ninja, and the Personal Statement Review service. I scored 747 (Band 1 SJT), could not have done it without you guys! PS Review, excellent and prompt (thank you Ali!). Would definitely recommend 6med! Anon (Kent)
First of all, thank you very much for such an amazing start! I now feel like I can channel my time effectively on practice. Without the course I think most of my practice would have been basically useless. Now I can apply the techniques you have shown to be effective and hopefully get a good score 🙂 The booklet is also brilliant! Thank you for your time and such an amazing course! (I have already recommended it to some of my friends doing ██████ and they have now cancelled it and are booked on your course).
Just wanted to say I took the UCAT course about a month ago and did my UCAT yesterday – I got 700 (2800) which is what I really wanted! I did the ██████ course last year and only got 649 so will definitely be recommending you. Thanks!!
Hi 6med! Gap year student here – first time I applied for medicine (2015) I didn’t attend any courses whatsoever and was completely lost with my UCAT preparation, used outdated resources that weren’t representative of the real thing (ISC 600 Q’s book 2013 edition…) and I didn’t follow any strategies – leaving me with a very poor UCAT score. Upon my reapplication (2016) I decided to go on your UCAT crash course, and thanks to the UCAT course handbook and the way that the course was delivered, I was able to improve my UCAT score by 190 points!! I realised what I did wrong last year, and ended up adopting the 6med strategies for success, and I am so grateful to you guys because I genuinely don’t think I could have done it without you 🙂 You made my UCAT preparation so much easier and efficient, even though I was already familiar with the UCAT I learnt so much more than I possibly could have alone. Result: 4 interviews this year (last year I had none) which has increased my chances of hopefully getting an offer..Oh and also, the support that I got even after attending the UCAT crash course via email for last minute questions – way unexpected. I would imagine most companies wouldn’t bother or truly care about the students after the course ends, but you guys have gone beyond in being there for every step of the process if needed, until receiving offer. So a massive thank you!! 🙂
One more thing. I did the UCAT crash course with you guys and basically lived on UCAT ninja… I can confidently state that your resources saved me and gave me a great score! Thank you so much for your services. Keep it up! 😁 – Somar
I noticed this was the email for the organiser of the UCAT and BMAT crash courses, of which I attended both, and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in creating two brilliant days that helped me so much towards gaining good results in both of the tests – I truly think that I wouldn’t have done nearly as well without the tips and advice I gained from coming on the course. I have just received an offer from Oxford Medical School and the BMAT was obviously a huge part in that process, so I just wanted to say a massive thank you particularly for the BMAT course for putting on such a brilliant day and say that I would highly recommend your courses to anybody. Thanks again for such a huge help, – Cameron
The 6med UCAT course has been instrumental to me gaining a place at medical school. After trying to prepare for two years on my own and failing to get a competitive score, I went to the London course and it was amazing. My instructors, Aqib and Emilie were really amazing and so friendly and open to questions. Aqib gave clear and concise methods to approach each section and was really pivotal in the way I prepared. I was able to continually email Emilie after about any concerns I had and I haven’t stopped recommending it to any prospective medics I have met since. The only thing I would say,it would have been helpful to spend more time on mental quantitative reasoning methods that were mentioned in the book but not discussed as they were so effective. I’ve also attended the interview course so I can vouch that this is genuinely a well hearted group of medical students running a fantastic and effective company helping students with their journey into medical school, thank you 6med!
Firstly I would just like to say a big thank you for all the help and support you have given me. Everyone was very friendly on the Crash Courses that I attended (UCAT and Interview) and they were all very helpful. I am certain I would not have gotten my UCAT Score without both the support and advice on the Crash Course and UCAT Ninja. In the end I got an average of 770 and even surprisedly managed to get 900 on AR and 800 on QR! I would highly recommend this course to everyone I know as it is 100% worth it and it’s the cheapest and most reliable course that I could find. Thanks to my UCAT I was able to get all of my interviews from all the universities that I applied to (Kings, Queens, St Georges and Birmingham) and have received offers from three of them so far. Still waiting on Kings! I want to thank you also for having a look through my personal statement and helping me improve it and giving me valuable suggestions! The friendliness and supportive atmosphere created at the Interview crash Course was lovely and really helped with my confidence and consolidating my thoughts and approach to a Medical School Interview. The preparation and information I received that day about both MMI interviews and Panel interviews was vital and I believe helped me to prepare for all of my interview. Thank you very much on helping me through this long and hard medical school application journey. I couldn’t have done it without your dedication and hard work! Thank you! 🙂
The course was fantastic and dramatically increased my self-confidence. I did my UCAT test at the end of September and my UCAT score increased by 30% compared with last year which I am more than happy with. This is of course due to attending your course. I just wanted to say thank you very much, I can’t explain how grateful I am.
The course was very organised, we started and finished on time. The two trainers were excellent. They were very approachable and professional. I felt like they sincerely cared about everyone who attended the course and gave us the advice we needed. What I liked most about the course is that it was interactive and all participants took turns in answering questions. The advice given on the day was very useful especially the advice about type two questions in the verbal reasoning as well as the advice about mental maths. Finally, The trainers explained the situational judgment in a very simple way and give examples from his own experience which was very helpful and made it easier to remember. – Alaa
Both the UCAT and BMAT courses were very informative. The instructors were amazing and I owe it to them that I’ve had 4 interviews and an offer from Oxford for medicine.
Before the course I didnt really know much about the UCAT and in the few practice questions that I had done I was rarely getting them right in time. After the course I was doing much better because it taught me how to approach the questions and find the answer, and how to save time (this definitely helped on the day!). I was very happy with the score that I got in my UCAT and I think I would have ended up with a lower score if I hadn’t been on the UCAT crash course
I would just like to say a massive thank you to 6med for creating these courses. I attended both the UCAT and BMAT crash courses and would wholeheartedly recommend both. The UCAT crash course in particular was superb; from the amazing 6med team (shoutout to Dan from UCL!) delivering the course on the day, to the even more amazing course handbook (which you can tell they put so much hard work in creating and which became my bible whilst revising). As a gap year student the first time I sat the UCAT, and not having attended the course, I score an average of 615 (VR:510, QR:630, DA:680, AR:640). Second time round, after attending the course, I scored an average of 707 (VR:590, QR:710, AR:820!). The BMAT crashcourse with the BMAT Ninja are also an incredible value for money, and I have since gotten an offer from UCL 🙂 Ps: their website has incredible articles for the personal statement and interview
Hope everything is good – I was at one of your UCAT courses in Imperial last year. Now I’m lucky enough to have a firmed an offer from King’s College London and insure an offer from Liverpool (as well as turn down another medical school!) I seriously think that getting these offers was down to a very high UCAT score – SO THANK YOU! If you have any tips for surviving in London (esp around London Bridge) then please let me know! I’ve also signed up for your partner scheme so look forward to working with you on that – the early signs are good! Thank you so much guys! – Max
I attended the UCAT Crash Course you held at Imperial this year ready for 2015 entry and you asked us to let you know how we got on. I took my UCAT today and was absolutely over the moon with 2940 and Band 1 and this really was so much down to the course I attended, so I just wanted to say thank you so much. The best part about UCAT Crash Course is the massive and incredibly personal booklet you get given. Unlike other UCAT books, there’s a voice behind the words written so it makes you feel like you are being guided through how to go about answering the question, even weeks after you’ve done the course! You’re also just really nice people and the way in which you teach is so good at keeping the room engaged because it’s non-stop flipping between learning from you and then applying the knowledge to the question in the timed 2 minutes before we move on. I found DA and SJT the most useful to be taught by you, as both are very difficult to teach yourself. I also went on a BMAT Crash Course, and that was just as helpful, so just my BMAT to come now! Thank you so much, as you really brought out the best in me.
I started looking for courses after doing some UCAT preparation from some books, and I wasn’t scoring high enough — so I thought I’d look into UCAT courses which I knew were notoriously expensive. Then I found the UCAT Crash Course and BMAT Crash Course. 6med is a company whose goal is to allow students to have access to high quality courses for the UCAT, BMAT and interviews, with the goal of breaking the barrier of having money. I could not believe it when I was able to go onto your UCAT and BMAT course at no cost. I am so grateful for the outstanding support you have given me to aid my application to medicine. I would like to thank yourself and everyone-else who put the course together. The course was sensationally helpful. Aqib and Dan started off with a brief introduction, telling us about what we need to know about the exam, providing some very specific tips to help with preparation. We then progressed through the exceptional UCAT Crash Course Handbook, going through each section of the exam in an orderly fashion with strategic tips, practice questions and review. We went through the questions in a very specific order, allowing us to get used to each question type and the strategies used for each. In the handbook are many strategies which are helpful, and not many of these are found in books online which are mostly full of questions. The handbook is an excellent guide, and the tips allow you to not only get the questions right but within the time limit of the actual exam which we got to experience by doing the practice questions. Practising the questions, I was amazed as to how effective the tips were and was shocked that I was able to answer the questions. Throughout the day, Aqib and Dan went over the 4 core sections and then, at the end, there was a short but very sweet exploration of the SJT which was nice to be taught and which provided very simplistic but efficient guidelines when answering SJT questions. Aqib and Dan were fantastic tutors and brought humour into their fantastic teaching. They were more than willing to help and focused on the needs of each individual by providing individual support. For this, I would like to given them an extra thank-you for their outstanding support. I would recommend this course to absolutely anyone: the tutors are amazing; the handbook is amazing; the overall course is amazing. Thank you so much!!!
I’d just like to say that I found the UCAT Crash course that you organised incredibly informative and engaging. You were both jovial, approachable and very competent throughout the entire event. Since the course, the UCAT Crash Course handbook has been my bible and I have been utilising many of the techniques that you taught us, and my marks have significantly improved!! This UCAT crash course is without doubt the best UCAT course available on the market and I will enthusiastically recommend it to my family, my friends and other students in my school. I am now enrolled in the BMAT Crash course at Cambridge in September and I hope to see you two there!!
I just wanted to let you know that I got an offer from Imperial (my first choice!) and have had an offer to go on the ‘waiting list’ for Cardiff. Thank you so much for all your fantastic help last year. Just need to get the grades now! – Mani
It was absolutely fantastic! The course was informative and funny. The tutors were friendly and had a good sense of humour. Thank you guys for all your help in my UCAT, BMAT and Interviews 🙂
I wanted to say how impressive and helpful the course run at Manchester Urmston Grammar was. I only discovered UCAT crash course from a google search, but I would like to promote your course at the school I attend. Thank you thoroughly for a fun and challenging day.
The course was incredible, the advice was really helpful and has genuinely helped to improve my technique and the way I approach the questions. The teachers were friendly and approachable, and made the day really enjoyable. The book full of questions and advice that I got was also really great. If you go on one course, I’d definitely recommend this one, it’s genuinely worth it.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for the excellent UCAT course (I attended last Saturday). I learnt so much and there is not one aspect of the course that I would change. I think that the fact that this course is run by medical students makes it even more dynamic and effective! Knowing that your support does not stop when the one day course has finished makes it more special and your enthusiasm to help with other areas of the application process is really appreciated. Thank you.
My advice to any UCAT candidate is to attend one of these courses! I was really struggling with my whole UCAT preparation, and had entered the panic stage where I was so stressed out about everything. On the course everything I couldn’t do was explained so well, with examples and questions to practice on. The tutors had prepared a booklet of notes and questions for us to take home as well, which meant that we could go over everything again at home. The tutors themselves were really friendly and knowledgeable, and were happy to help, and to slow down and recap things that people weren’t sure of. Overall it was a really great experience and helped me to achieve a score of 747.5 in the 2014-2015 cycle.
Hey guys, I attended the crash course today and I must say, it’s really managed to kickstart me into getting my routine together. It also inspired a great deal of confidence into me from it. I’d just like to extend a personal thank you for your wonderful services. I’ll be looking forward to the interview class up next! 🙂
Attending this course for my UCAT in 2014 was a very wise decision. Not only was it affordable for the quality of teaching I received, the thick booklet given to us whilst on the course was great to refer back too during further revision at home. The course covered in depth techniques for all sections of the UCAT with timed practice questions to put these techniques into use, as well as explanations for all questions attempted. I would thoroughly recommend this course to all of my peers.
I just wanted to thank all you guys for a very informative and an educational day. Before attending the UCAT crash course, I wasn’t aware of the brilliant strategy that you had. It’s succinct, concise and straight to the point. I, honestly have no constructive criticism on how to improve the course. Its fab!
I told the guys on the day, but I just want to reiterate how excellent Daniel, Sheikh and Aqib were. Their eloquence and good-humour made what could have been a slightly dull (albeit useful) day into a genuinely enjoyable experience. Their advice and the manual you provided are looking to be very useful guides through the long hours of practice that loom ahead.
I had my UCAT yesterday and I got 738 average and I am buzzed with that score!! So I’m just e-mailing to thank you guys so much for your techniques and support. I believe it genuinely helped me and I’ll be sure to recommend this course to younger students for next year! Thanks again and good luck with your future endeavours!
Very helpful for AR and SJT AND Teachers = lovely, bright and hilarious.
Very good and helpful course and the medical students were enthusiastic and put in extra effort if we missed parts to help us catch up. They made sure everyone was involved and that we all benefited from the courses.
Amazing UCAT session, the students know what they are talking about and helped me achieve a score of over 700! UCAT Ninja way another amazing way to help me achieve a top score!
I would just like to thank you all so much for today! The sections were broken down very well and it was very clear. The teaching was great too! I am VERY glad I signed up for this course!
The course for the day was very well structured, with very friendly and helpful student teachers. I do like the idea of students passing on their techniques as they have been through this process first hand and know what other students are anticipating. Well done guys and thank you.
Hello, I attended your UCAT Crash Course and last week scored 720, 880, 710, 770 and Band 1, to give an average of 770, so thanks so much for your help!
I thought the course was nearly perfect ♥ I loved the tips and methods you gave me, and doing it in a fun way made everything feel easy. I feel my chances have improved in a good way. Keep doing what you’re doing. Thanks ♥
Long day but definitely worth it, goes through each section in detail and you get a book at the end with practice questions and notes, I got 2290- would recommend!
