Frequently Asked Questions

I haven’t received my order confirmation email. Help! 2017-08-27T09:36:56+00:00

When you book a course with us, our system should automatically send an order confirmation email to the billing email address (not the student email address). If you can’t find your order confirmation email, please first wait a few minutes and then check your junk inbox because sometimes our emails can end up in there.

If you still can’t find the order confirmation, then either something weird happened on our email server, or you might have made a typo when entering the email address (over the past 5 years, we’ve found that both these scenarios are equally common). If that’s the case, just drop us an email at [email protected], telling us which course you registered for and what the billing/student name was. We’ll find your order on our system and let you know that everything’s all good.

If you’ve booked a course last-minute and are having issues finding the confirmation email, then please don’t worry. The order confirmation doesn’t really say anything interesting, but it does give you a link to the course joining instructions. Here’s the link – https://6med.co.uk/course-joining-instructions. We have everyone’s registered names on the system, so you don’t need the confirmation email to gain entry into the course, provided you remember what your name is!

I’ve registered for the course but can’t find the joining instructions. Help! 2017-08-27T09:31:54+00:00

Not to worry. Our course joining instructions (i.e.: where to go, what to bring, lunch arrangements) are always available at https://6med.co.uk/course-joining-instructions

Our instructors usually send an email a week before the course saying hello, but please don’t worry if you don’t get that email, because it doesn’t really say anything interesting other than ‘hello’.

Also, because we try and save money and use a cheap email service, sometimes the emails we send can end up in junk inboxes, so please do check your junk email if you’re looking for an email from us 🙂

What’s your refund policy? 2017-08-27T09:41:15+00:00

Our refund policy (stated on all the registration pages) is that we can give you a full refund if you let us know at least 14 days before the course you’re registered to attend. If you’d like a refund, just drop us an email at [email protected] and tell us your name + which course you booked so that we can refund the money to your card. We usually process refunds in a batch once or twice a week, so please don’t be concerned if you don’t hear back from us instantly 🙂 As long as you requested the refund 14 days before the course, we guarantee that the refund will be processed and the money will be back in your account within a few working days.

If you’d like to cancel your place on a course but the course is less than 14 days away, then I’m afraid we won’t be able to offer a refund, but we’re happy to transfer your registration to another student, if you know anyone who’d like to take your place.

What do I get from the course and who is going to be teaching? 2017-01-15T11:33:00+00:00

You will be given a 300+ page course book to keep, containing all you need to know to do well in the UKCAT and packed with practice questions and detailed solutions. During the course itself, we will be referring constantly to this book and interactively going through it as a class. This book should become your best friend every day until test-day (after which you can burn it).

As to who’s going to be teaching you, we always have 2 instructors for every course. They will be from our UKCAT instructor team, who have been hand-picked from a pool of hundreds of applicants from the top medical schools. Each will have had extensive teaching experience and high-scorers themselves in the UKCAT. More importantly, all our instructors know their stuff, are fun and friendly, and will be skilled at working the class interactively – making the whole process painless and much more enjoyable.

Can I change the date of my course? 2017-01-15T11:19:07+00:00

Certainly. The easiest way to change your booking is simply to book again for the correct date, and then drop us an email so that we can refund your original booking. We can refund your original booking provided you let us know at least 14 days before the course is due to take place.

Can you run your course in my school? 2017-08-27T09:46:41+00:00

We’ve run our BMAT, UKCAT and Interview courses at a few schools over the years. The prices for schools are basically the same as they are for normal students, although of course, schools can get VAT refunds, so would effectively save 20%. Please drop us an email if you’d like to talk about us coming in to your school to deliver a course or two.

Do I really need to attend a course to do well at UKCAT/BMAT/Interviews? 2017-08-27T09:46:50+00:00

The short answer – no.

The long answer – you have very little to lose, and a lot to gain by attending. Our courses have been incredibly helpful for a large number of students in the past few years, and that’s because we know exactly where people fall down and make mistakes in the UKCAT. Importantly, we’ve done all the hard work of comparing and creating the best strategies using a wide array of resources so that you don’t have to. Just so you know, all our content is continuously peer-reviewed and updated every year. You won’t go away with a guaranteed high score in the bag, but you will absolutely go home much better prepared, equipped with a new set of effective strategies, and more confident. You can trust that we know what we’re doing – all of us have received high scores on the UKCAT (725+), been extensively trained to teach UKCAT, and have a passion for teaching.

What makes you qualified to teach the UKCAT? 2017-01-15T11:22:43+00:00

It’s true, we’re not UKCAT examiners or anything (if those even exist). We’re just a group of medical students who have successfully been through the process. As such, you won’t get any insider knowledge from us (nor will you from anyone else), but what you will get, is arguably the most important perspective – the student’s perspective. Because we know what kinds of things you’ve covered in school, we’re able to tailor our teaching to suit you, in a way that no one else really can.

Along with this, we’ve worked very hard to bring you the best strategies and techniques that have worked for us and we know will work for our students. You can rest assured that our close-knit team of instructors and course material writers have all secured UKCAT scores of 725 and above, with many scoring in the 800s.

It goes without saying that we constantly test and improve upon strategies year on year, and cover any new changes to the UKCAT. We know how hard the UKCAT is, and at the end of the day, it just really helps to be taught by people you can easily relate to – it makes things far more enjoyable. Besides, we’ve all of us have years of teaching experience under our belt, so you’ll be in good hands!

Why should I attend your course rather than a UKCAT course offered by other companies? 2017-01-15T11:35:28+00:00

By all means, if money’s no object then do please attend whatever courses you feel will help you. However, if you’re looking for the best value-for-money option, then there’s really nothing that beats us. The techniques and strategies we’ve come up with and taught for the last few years are second to none, and the majority of the 5,000 students that have been on our courses will testify to that. We’ll give you a whole day of teaching, provide everything you need to best prepare for the UKCAT, and in the end, hopefully help you get into a great university. No other company provides all that, and certainly not for the price that we’re offering. Check out our Reviews page if you don’t believe us 🙂

Why is the UKCAT Crash Course so expensive? 2017-01-15T11:22:53+00:00

We feel that £109 is a very reasonable price for a course as good as ours. In fact, the price is probably far too low, at least compared to the rest of the courses on the market. We’ve got to pay for the premises, the printing, the transport to and from the various locations, VAT, Corporation Tax, accounting fees, websites costs, and ideally would like a little left over for ourselves (as this is effectively our Summer job).

Having said that, we do understand that £109 is rather a lot of money. We’re fully committed to help widen access to Medicine, which is why we offer an unlimited number of bursaries each year (we give out over £10,000 in bursaries each year). If money is at all an issue for you, please check out the Bursaries page and get in touch with us – we’d be delighted to work something out.

Why is the UKCAT Crash Course so cheap? 2017-01-15T11:22:57+00:00

In a market dominated by companies that charge over £300 for their courses, we’re always a bit wary of charging significantly less – most of us have studied Psychology as part of our Medical degrees at University, and we know that people tend to associate a lower price with a poorer quality product. In the end however, we decided that the pros far outweigh the cons. We don’t want money to be a barrier for entry for people who want to study at top universities, and forking out £330 for a course just isn’t feasible for most (including us). And because we’re a team of students, rather than a corporate giant, we pride ourselves on being able to provide a fantastic course for a fraction of the price you’d pay elsewhere.

Should I prepare for the course in advance? 2017-01-15T11:21:00+00:00

By the time you get to the course, most of you will probably have attempted a few questions already and know roughly how the UKCAT works. That being said, you don’t need to have any prior experience of the UKCAT before the course: we go through everything you need to know on the day – although we don’t like to waste your time by going through general things you could easily find on the official UKCAT website yourself.

It certainly wouldn’t hurt to get a general sense of the UKCAT exam, but if you can help it, we don’t encourage you do too many questions before our course: we’ll give you a new set of strategies and techniques that have proven time and time again to be the most effective way of tackling the exam, so we don’t want you building up too many bad habits beforehand. If you’ve already done quite a few questions, it doesn’t matter – but be prepared to change the way you do things when you come on the course!

What can I do to get the most out of the course? 2017-01-15T11:21:36+00:00

We work very hard to make our course the best on the market and pull out all the stops to keep it that way – but there are some general things you can do too to get even more out of it.

Many students comment on the intensity of the course, and we think that’s a good thing – there’s a lot of high-yield information to get through. In light of this, do arm yourself with a good night’s sleep and make sure you don’t skip breakfast. Also, don’t come on the course if you’re not going to take it seriously and give it your absolute focus. We do sometimes get students, although not very often, that clearly look and act like they don’t want to be there from the very beginning, or are just disruptive and can’t stop talking to the friend they brought along.

Importantly, we encourage you let go of any inhibitions and get stuck in – the course is very interactive and all our tutors are super friendly, so don’t be afraid to admit you don’t understand or ask questions. This may be your best chance to bring up any issues you may have and to straighten out any doubts! We’re also more than happy to talk to you about anything medicine-related, including your university applications and ideas for your personal statement.

Do I need to bring anything to the course? 2017-01-15T11:20:38+00:00

As you step through the classroom door, our instructors will hand you a copy of our course handbook to keep, as well as provide an erasable whiteboard and markers for any workings you may have to jot down during the day. If you have a basic, non-scientific calculator lying around the house, do bring it, otherwise you can just use your phone calculator. It goes without saying that you should bring pens and pencils. Apart from that, it’s really up to you whether you want to bring some snacks or food (there’s always a place close by where you can buy food). In our experience, the rooms can get quite hot in the summer, so it’ll be a good shout to bring water with you.

Can I get a refund? 2017-01-15T11:20:12+00:00

Of course. Just drop us an email at least 14 days before the course, and we’ll refund the full cost to the debit/credit card you used for payment.
